World of Animals at Elkins Park is a full-service animal hospital. Physical Examinations
We recommend a complete physical examination for all pets on their first visit to us. One of our veterinarians will check your pet from nose to tail. This enables us to establish a baseline of what is normal for your pet’s health. Our veterinarians recommend an annual physical examination for all pets. Senior pets and pets with certain medical conditions are recommended to have more frequent examinations. The physical exam provides clues to the existence of problems, and often leads to the recommendation of diagnostic testing such as radiographs or blood testing to more clearly identify the problem.
The examination involves looking the animal over from head-to-toe, feeling for bumps and lumps both inside and outside the body; checking ears with an otoscope to see down in the canal; checking eyes with an ophthalmoscope; checking for tooth or gum disease, and listening to the heart and lungs for any sign of illness.
Bring Your Medical History
Bring in any and all medical history you have of your pet when you come for your pet’s first visit. Previous history can be very beneficial to our veterinarians. Your pet’s vaccination history is also necessary, so we know what diseases he or she is protected against. If you have something like this, share it with our team. If not, let us know, and we can contact your previous vet clinic and request a copy.

Cat-Friendly Silver Practice
World of Animals at Elkins Park is designated a Cat-Friendly Silver Practice. The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) pioneered the CFP program to provide a framework for creating a positive practice environment for cats, including medical care that supports the cat’s unique needs and knowledgeable staff members who understand feline-friendly handling. The AAFP realizes that cats present unique challenges before, during, and after a veterinary visit.
