- A remarkable English style pub and restaurant, situated right on route 202 and just a mile from Lake Waramaug in New Preston/Marbledale. With a patio and deck right on top of the East Aspetuck river and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water that rushes by. The beamed tavern features a large cozy fireplace blazing away all Winter. A copper and mahogany bar with copper ceiling add to the wonderful atmosphere. The whole building is filled museum artifacts. Dine in front of the fire at a 15th.century tavern table from an English castle, view one of the only remaining great seals of Queen Elizabeth 1st. (by permission of the British Government) - a 1488 Castle deed, a signed rolling stones guitar, and a 1920 Indian Motorcycle, mounted behind the bar are just a few of the marvelous and fascinating items that surround you. The extensive and very reasonably priced menu features everything from quite possibly the finest hamburger you will ever have, to shepherds pie, lamb shank, salmon poached in parchment etc. Lunch has a terrific array of salads and sandwiches, and both menus include a most superior fish and chips. All the desserts are freshly made by the pastry chef - the dessert menu is most definitely not to be missed, the Bannoffi pie is a standout. Chef uses the freshest and very best of ingredients, to prepare all dishes and specials.
