- Mission
- Westminster College offers a truly unique environment for learning in a location that is recognized as a quality of life hotspot. Utah was recently rated the #1 best state to live in and the #1 city for job growth by Forbes, Outside magazine rated Salt Lake City a "near-perfect location for avid outdoor adventurers" and Men's Fitness rated Salt Lake as the nation???s fittest city. Located where the city of Salt Lake meets the Rocky Mountains and deeply committed to each student's success, Westminster is a comprehensive college that integrates a strong foundation in liberal education with cutting-edge professional programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Our purposes are to prepare students to lead lives of learning, accomplishment, and service, and to help them develop skills and attributes critical for success in a rapidly changing world. Westminster students take advantage of our unique approach to learning characterized by active, hands-on, collaborative, and cross-disciplinary experiences, coupled with close, mentoring relationships with faculty. All freshmen participate in learning communities; service-learning opportunities abound; and more than 85 percent of students participate in internships before they graduate. Westminster has more than 70 academic programs, including 36 undergraduate majors and 13 graduate degrees. Some unique and very popular programs include the aviation program, including our own flight center at Salt Lake International Airport; Honors; the McNair Scholars program, an elite national graduate school preparation program for low-income, first generation and underrepresented students; Winter at Westminster, a study abroad alternative that combines once-in-a-lifetime snow sports activities with 12-16 transferable credits; Westminster Scholars, a problem-based curriculum, and May Term, which is free to students who enrolled full-time the previous spring and fall. Throughout their education, students are challenged to experiment with ideas, raise questions, critically examine alternatives, and make informed decisions. Students are encouraged to accept responsibility for their own learning, to discover and pursue their passions, and to act with responsibility. The culture at Westminster is easy-going, laid-back, and welcoming. The vibrant campus community is diverse with undergraduates and graduates, residents and commuters -- students of all ages and from all kinds of different backgrounds. The college has students from 43 different states and 31 countries, who have all kinds of different interests, passions and talents. But, with a total enrollment of just 3,000, every one of them finds the niche.
