More details
- Mission
- Above all, Westfield State College emphasizes the student as the center of the college. Westfield builds upon a tradition of excellence and innovation by engaging students in a dynamic and diverse learning community. Through rigorous academic and applied learning, our students become leaders in society. We help our students develop intellectually and to use their knowledge and skills to improve the social and economic conditions in their communities through community service. The college emphasizes the importance of collaborative education, distinguished and strengthened by a general education program that links the arts and sciences with professional studies, and by opportunities for experiential and community-based learning. During the past year, under the leadership of its nineteenth President Evan S. Dobelle, the college has begun: a global initiative to expand international study and exchange opportunities; a town-gown initiative that seeks to connect the college with the City and to help to make Westfield the college town that it was always meant to be; a program of campus improvements, including the renovation of the library and Ely Hall and a Speaker Series, whose world-class roster is bringing thousands of people to campus for evenings of thought and discussion.
