- Founded in 1857, Upper Iowa University is a private, not-for-profit university providing undergraduate and graduate degree programs and leadership development opportunities to over 6,600 students???nationally and internationally???at its Fayette campus and learning centers worldwide. Upper Iowa University is a recognized innovator in offering accredited, quality programs through flexible, multiple delivery systems, including online and independent study. UIU???s Residential Campus which is located in Fayette, Iowa, has over 900 students. The largest capital improvement campaign in the University???s history ??? $75 million ??? is currently underway on campus. UIU???s Distance Education Programs (an award-winning Online Program and Independent Study) offer the flexibility to study anywhere, anytime. UIU has 15 US Center locations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin offer evening classes. UIU is global, with International Centers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia and offers a study abroad program. UIU is a ???Military-Friendly??? university, offering credit for military training, military spouse scholarship opportunities, and tuition discounts for the Total Military Family. UIU is a member of Post 9/11 GI Bill???s Yellow Ribbon Program and works closely with Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, GoArmyEd, the Navy College Program Distance Learning Program, the Army National Guard Education Support Program, the Coast Guard Institute, and the Air Force AU ABC program. UIU has a unique schedule, offering two full-credit courses at a time for four eight-week terms UIU offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, with over 40 majors to choose from UIU ranks in the top 25% of colleges nationally for the enhancement of student learning [Source: CLA Learning Report-2009]. UIU offers competitive merit scholarships and financial aid packages, enabling our students to graduate with less debt than at any other private institution in the State of Iowa [Source: Iowa Student Aid Commission 2008]. UIU is the only NCAA Division II Athletic Program in Iowa and member of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NCIS). Upper Iowa University celebrates 21 percent diversity among its student population. Upper Iowa University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association (www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org) and is approved by the Louisiana Higher Education Board, the Wisconsin Educational Approval Board, and the Iowa Department of Education (for teacher education in Iowa only). The programs offered are approved by the states of Iowa, Kansas (restricted), Louisiana, and Wisconsin for veterans??? benefits. Upper Iowa University has produced a long and distinguished list of alumni who include one of the founders of the YMCA and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, the first Speaker of the US House of Representatives west of the Mississippi River, a world-famous archaeologist and scholar of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a founder of a Fortune 500 Company (Target stores), just to name a few. 70% of UIU graduates were employed or attending graduate school for the period 2004 - 2008.
