- Mission
- The University of Tampa is a residential, private university that integrates the richness of a liberal arts tradition with 21st century technology and innovative teaching strategies. Crowned by the towering minarets of historic Plant Hall, UT's 100-acre riverside campus is nestled in a park-like setting on the edge of the Hillsborough River, just two blocks from downtown Tampa. UT offers over 120 areas of undergraduate study. An undergraduate Evening College and masters programs in nursing, business, and in Education complement the curriculum. Over 6300 students attend, representing 50 states and 100 countries. In an innovative first-year program, students explore global issues and cultures, examine career possibilities, and refine their critical thinking and communication skills. For qualifying students, the Honors Program offers expanded opportunities for instruction, internships and study abroad. Other highlights include: Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC, Academic Center for Excellence, peer tutoring, Writing Center, and faculty-directed student research. The faculty to student ratio is 17:1 and 90% of full-time faculty have terminal degrees. Class sizes are small, averaging 22. Leadership opportunities abound in an atmosphere of individual discovery and development fostered by UT's active campus life, including Greek life, more than 140 student clubs and organizations, and service learning opportunities. UT has one of the best NCAA Division II sports programs in the nation. Spartan athletes compete on 14 men's and women's varsity teams. Over $200 million has been invested in new facilities since 1998 including a new student center, College of Business building, Marine Science Field Station, art galleries, a theatre, and modern computer, digital arts, language and science labs. All of UT's ten residence halls are new or have been renovated since 1998. Academic, special talent, and athletic scholarships, as well as need-based aid, are available.
