- The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, is a state-supported four-year comprehensive college. Throughout its history, The Citadel's primary purpose has been to educate undergraduates as members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and to prepare them for postgraduate positions of leadership through academic programs of recognized excellence supported by the best features of a structured military environment. The cadet lifestyle provides an environment, which supports the growth and development of character, physical fitness, and moral and ethical principles. A complimentary purpose of The Citadel, realized through The Citadel Graduate College, is to serve the citizens of the Lowcountry and the State of South Carolina through both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, application and utilization of research, and a broad range of professional development opportunities. The same faculty and academic support services are used in both programs.
