Stairs can prove to be a real challenge for individuals with mobility issues. Stairlifts, sometimes referred to as chair lifts or stair gliders, are mechanical devices that lift people up and down the stairs. They work by mounting a rail (track) to the treads of the stairs. This rail is installed to fit the specific staircase, whether straight or curved. The user then sits on the chair and is lifted up or down the stairs generally by the use of a control or switch.
