- Mission
- St. Bonaventure University provides a values-based education with individual attention from professors, a beautiful residential setting, and a friendly, close-knit atmosphere. Complementing St. Bonaventure's traditions are innovative degree programs, computerized career placement aids, comprehensive student life activities, and modern academic facilities. St. Bonaventure instills in students a passion for learning and living. Our professors are committed and approachable faculty who dedicate themselves to making connections -- among themselves, their courses and, most importantly, their students. Frequently our students work alongside faculty on research projects that are often reserved only for graduate students at other institutions. Learning extends far beyond the walls of academic halls at St. Bonaventure, and the essence of that out-of-class experience is service, making a difference in the lives of those in need just down the street or a thousand miles away. Many students take the opportunity to serve as Bona Buddies to area children or senior citizens; help with the national award-winning soup kitchen, The Warming House; or volunteer in one of many service organizations, including SIFE and BonaResponds, one of the most active collegiate disaster relief organizations in the nation. Volunteer opportunities include immersion experiences and service opportunities with the poor, both in the US and abroad. In the past few years, we have invested millions of dollars in updating and expanding our facilities, which has transformed our campus and infused our curriculum. Our new state-of-the-art William F. Walsh Science Center opened in 2008, doubling the space devoted to the sciences at SBU. St. Bonaventure students enjoy two athletic facilities: the $6.2-million Richter Center, a fitness center open 24 hours a day, and the Reilly Center, housing a 5,780-seat sports arena, swimming pool, and weight room. More than 80 percent of St. Bonaventure students take part in intramurals, club sports or fitness programs annually. Most of our students live on campus. First-year students may choose to live in one of several floors clustered by themes, featuring specialized programming for common interests. Select upper-class student leaders live in these residence halls, serving as Resident Assistants and Mentors. St. Bonaventure is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Our School of Business has joined an elite group, achieving accreditation of its bachelor's and master's degree programs in business from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
