Spirit Airlines was founded by Ben Baldanza and was originally named "Budget Airline." It was started with only one aircraft, a Boeing 727-200 that flew from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa Bay. The company existed for just two years before it went bankrupt and changed its name to Spirit Airlines.
