- Mission
- At Southern New Hampshire University, we believe there are no limits to what our students can achieve. With a culture that inspires every person, every day, to do more, learn more, try harder and exceed expectations, we are dedicated to helping students realize their potential. SNHU offers undergraduate programs in business, culinary arts, education, hospitality management and liberal arts and graduate programs in business, community economic development and education. Programs are offered on campus, online and on location at our centers in New Hampshire and Maine. The university has approximately 1,900 traditional, full-time undergraduate day students, with a total enrollment in all divisions (day, evening, weekend, and online undergraduate and graduate students) of about 9,400. The wireless campus features new dorms and apartment buildings, a simulated stock trading room, multimedia classrooms, the museum-quality McIninch Art Gallery, virtual science labs, a library with resources that can be accessed via the Internet, a fitness center that rivals members-only gyms, athletic fields, cooking labs, a bakery, and a student-run restaurant. SNHU is the first carbon-neutral campus in New Hampshire and is a US Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Partner. The EPA recently named SNHU a national College & University Green Power Challenge winner. A $20-million building project will be completed in 2009 and includes a 33,500-square-foot academic building and a 47,700-square-foot dining hall. Both buildings will reflect the university's commitment to sustainability. Among the environmentally friendly features are low-flow plumbing, automatic fixtures and lighting, and energy-efficient windows and heating and cooling systems. The small-school atmosphere provides students with ample opportunities for participation in class and taking on leadership roles in the campus community. Community is important at SNHU; you'll find our caring and friendly faculty and staff in the gym, in the dining hall and in the stands, not just in their classrooms and offices. Intercollegiate teams compete in Division II of the NCAA, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the Northeast-10 Conference. Sports include baseball, men's and women's basketball, cheerleading, men's and women's cross-country, golf, ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, and volleyball. Our powerful athletic teams dominate on the field and in the classroom. The University's student-athletes earned honors from the NCAA and USA Today for high grades and 100-percent graduation rates. The university is ideally located, with easy access to downtown Manchester, New Hampshire's largest city and the "most livable" city in the East, according to Money magazine. Public transportation is available and students may keep cars on campus. The mountains, beaches and Boston are only an hour away. So that our students may make positive contributions to society, the university acknowledges the importance of intellectual, professional and ethical development; community service; cultural involvement; and social responsibility. The university fosters learning partnerships among students, faculty and staff. The university faculty includes individuals who bring practical, professional experience to the learning environment. The university offers a diverse living and learning environment that reflects many ages, races and cultures; ours is the most internationally diverse campus in northern New England. The multicultural, multinational community promotes mutual respect and understanding of others as an integral part of its globally oriented educational purpose. Southern New Hampshire University leads in the development of educational programs and services which reflect the changing demands and needs of students and society, thus enabling graduates to compete in the global economy.
