More details
- Mission
- Southeast Missouri State University is a comprehensive, regional university offering 200 areas of study with numerous academic accreditations. Southeast is the only university in Missouri to have a separate campus dedicated to art, dance, music and theatre. With nearly 11,000 students, Southeast is an ideal size to take advantage of extracurricular opportunities including Division I athletics and 18 fraternities and sororities. Freshman class sizes average 25-35 students with an overall student-faculty ratio of 18 to 1. Ninety-five percent of courses are taught by experienced faculty, not teaching assistants. Southeast offers a unique approach to career development. Through the innovative Career Linkages program, all students work with a career advisor as well as an academic advisor. A series of career proficiency checks are imbedded into the curriculum to prepare students for a successful career search at the time of graduation. Internships and experiential learning are strongly emphasized with 100 percent of majors offering internship or clinical experience. Study-abroad opportunities range from two-week to semester and academic-year opportunities and are available to students from all majors and interests. Located in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the largest city between St. Louis and Memphis, Southeast is a great place to live and learn. Students come from all over the United States and from more than 40 countries around the world. Southeast's residence halls come in many different styles including community-style, suite-style and small group living. Students with similar interests or courses may be grouped in residential learning communities. Two recreational centers and an aquatic center are available to students, along with more than 150 social, recreational and special interest student organizations.
