Company description
Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) regulates the renin angiotensin system (RAS) by counterbalancing ACE activity. Abundant evidence demonstrated that ACE2 plays physiological and pathological role in the cardiovascular, renal and respiratory systems as well as blood pressure control. Ang-(1-7) is considered as major biologically active product of ACE2. ACE2's physiological role has been implicated in hypertension, cardiac function, heart function and diabetes, and as a receptor of the SARS-CoV (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus). Moreover, ACE2 has been identified as a key SARS-coronavirus receptor and plays a protective role in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) pathogenesis.
