Tow trucks work by loading vehicles onto trucks , then transporting them to secure locations to take the vehicle to be towed. The operator of a truck is usually in contact with the owner to inform them that the car is being taken away and give an estimate of the cost. The tow truck will then take the car off the road and scrap it as scrap metal if it isn't claimed within a set time frame (usually within 24 hours).
