- Mission
- Saint Joseph's University is a nationally recognized, Catholic, Jesuit university. For more than 150 years, Saint Joseph's has advanced the professional and personal ambitions of men and women by providing a rigorous Jesuit education--one that demands high achievement, expands knowledge, deepens understanding, stresses effective reasoning and communication, develops moral and spiritual character, and imparts enduring pride. One of only 129 schools with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and business school accreditation by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), Saint Joseph's is home to 4,550 traditional, full-time undergraduates studying in 40 academic majors and over 900 challenging courses. In addition, the distinguished research faculty concentrate on teaching and approximately 98 percent hold doctoral or terminal degrees. Faculty make students a priority and foster one-on-one mentoring relationships with students. Through the Summer Scholar's Program, students can conduct original research under the guidance of a faculty mentor and earn a stipend while doing so. At Saint Joseph's, we define academic excellence by a high-quality curriculum, expert faculty, and our talented student body. In the College of Arts and Sciences, students select a major among three divisions: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and mathematics. Whether it is through reading the classics as an English major or discussing world politics as an international relations major, students in the College of Arts and Science not only develop a perspective on the world, but also learn to use that perspective to make a difference in their respective fields. At the Erivan K. Haub School of Business (HSB), the world's future leaders are taught by professors who achieved incredible success in their own corporate careers. Students are not merely taught in classrooms but in state-of-the art academic facilities, including a Wall Street Trading Room. Students may also take advantage of the Cooperative Education program, which integrates formal classroom training with paid work experience. Home of the largest program in Food Marketing in the US and the Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics, HSB sculpts its young men and women to be innovative, professional, successful and ethical business leaders. A Saint Joseph's education is not only earned in the classroom. Many Hawks spend their semester breaks volunteering in the Gulf Coast, Appalachia, New Mexico and beyond, proving that being men and women for others isn't simply an ideal but a way of life. At the Career Development Center, students are assisted for life after Saint Joseph's. In a recent post-graduate survey, over 94 percent of graduates were either employed full time, in graduate school or pursuing volunteer opportunities. Education is also cultivated on the fields and courts of 20 NCAA Division I teams; through membership in over 100 activities and organizations; and in the communities of the residence halls. Saint Joseph's students are a dynamic group of individuals, committed to academic excellence, as diverse in their interests as they are in their backgrounds, yet united by a drive to succeed and improve the world around them. One of Saint Joseph's goals is to make a 21st century collegiate education an affordable reality for all those prepared to strive for excellence and balance in both learning and living. Over 85 percent of our students receive merit and/or need based financial assistance. Hawk Hill is an attractive 100-acre campus noted for its distinctive architecture, located in a suburban setting on the western edge of historic Philadelphia. Saint Joseph's provides ready access to the vast career opportunities and cultural resources of America's fifth-largest city, while affording students a cohesive and intimate campus experience.
