- Mission
- A private university in Pittsburgh's suburban hills, Robert Morris University is set on a tranquil, 230-acre former estate that is a short drive from the cultural and commercial opportunities of a major city. Founded in 1921, RMU built its reputation with strong academic programs in the business fields of accounting, finance, marketing and management. To prepare students for success in a changing and competitive workforce, the university has created programs in communications, information systems, engineering, mathematics, science, education, social sciences and nursing in the past decade and now offers 60 undergraduate programs and 20 graduate programs. RMU also offers students a Student Engagement Transcript that documents their activities and leadership outside the classroom. About 5,000 full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students from nearly every state and 37 countries are enrolled. RMU is a teaching-centered institution, featuring small classes taught by professors and a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. The campus continues to blossom since attaining university status in 2002, with a new football stadium, an apartment-style residence hall, and major renovations to dormitories and classrooms. This year the university will break ground on a new business school building with a state-of-the-art simulated stock trading floor. The university has 90 student clubs and organizations, and RMU's competitive athletics program boasts 23 NCAA Division I teams and numerous division titles and championships.
