Steer clear of Red Desert Rentals located at 117 W Telegraph St Washington, UT 84780 (435) 674-2091. They are very unprepared and ill-equipped.
I arrived to pick up a trailer that was “ready to hook up and go” but during the walk through we discovered that it wasn’t ready at all. We found the following:
1. The drinking water tank was actually empty.
2. That the CO and Methane detection alarm was missing a fuse.
3. That an exterior light bulb was burnt out.
4. That the key to the storage compartment was a tight fit (and ultimately broke.)
5. While the walk through was occurring, one of the owners of the company hooked up the trailer brakes, closed the hood and went on his way. When I asked how they worked, we opened the hood to find that the final electrical connection hadn’t been made.
Once on the road I discovered that the brakes were set too tight but wasn’t shown how to adjust them so burned through almost 2 tanks of gas in no time. I called the office for advice and there was no answer. I left a message and did not receive a return call.
Once at our site, we set up camp to find:
1. The black water tank was full, meaning that we couldn’t use the toilet for the entire trip.
2. The bathroom door knob was broken and had to be closed with a bungee cord.
3. The battery power went out. We found the battery terminals very dirty and loaded with corrosion and that the fuse was blown. We cleaned the terminals and replace the fuse to have it blow again, leaving us with no power other than to run the generator for extended period of time.
4. The floor was filthy.
It became clear that whoever was supposed to clean and prepare the trailer didn’t do his job, that the person responsible to mage this process didn’t do his job and that whoever was responsible for customer support and return phone calls mid-week wasn’t doing their job. These lapses could have put me and my family in danger had we not been surrounded by folks that were able and willing to help us.
They did agree to refund half of the fee for the rental but considering the only use we got out of the trailer was a bed that we could have used a tent for, at no cost, I am left totally unsatisfied and would recommend that you not rent from Red Desert Rentals and look elsewhere for your RV rentals.
