- Mission
- Queens University of Charlotte is a private, co-ed, comprehensive university with a commitment to both liberal arts and professional studies. Located in the heart of historic Charlotte, we serve approximately 2,600 undergraduate and graduate students through the College of Arts and Sciences, the McColl School of Business, the Wayland H. Cato, Jr. School of Education, the School of Communication, Hayworth College for Adult Studies and the Andrew Blair College of Health which features the Presbyterian School of Nursing. Queens has provided transformational experiences for students for more than 150 years. The university today offers 34 undergraduate majors and 66 concentrations, and nine graduate programs. We ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in The National Survey of Student Engagement???s five benchmark categories. There are many unique opportunities for engagement including the Core Program in the Liberal Arts which received accolades from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our exemplary international study program ranked second in the nation for student participation with more than 90 percent of undergraduates studying abroad. Our internship programs ??? which draw 100 percent student participation - have been ranked among the best in the nation. At Queens the student/professor ratio is 12 to 1, which fosters meaningful student-teacher relationships. In all of our programs, we emphasize active and collaborative learning, a creative synthesis of the liberal arts with the world of work, and the value of lifelong learning. We value the factors which foster student success: an intimate learning environment, excellence in teaching, intellectual curiosity and an education grounded in the liberal arts tradition which develops critical thinking, creativity, communication, commitment to ethical behavior and responsible citizenship, and which serves as a foundation for successful and fulfilling lives. We also value responsibility and service to society in keeping with our Presbyterian heritage and as expressed in our motto, ???Not to be served, but to serve.??? Queens is thriving, boasting five NC Professors of the Year on the faculty and 18 NCAA Division II men's and women's athletic teams. The nursing school produces the most registered nurses of any private university in NC Our last few freshman classes have been the largest in more than 30 years; a testament to the university???s commitment to providing a world-class education in an intimate, challenging setting. The university is still growing, with the recent addition of a new, 65-acre sports complex and plans for a new sciences and health building. Major improvements to campus facilities have been completed or are underway including residence hall and dining hall renovations.
