Point Park enrolls nearly 4,000 full- and part-time students in more than 67 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs offered through its four schools--the Conservatory of Performing Arts, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and the School of Communication. Since its founding in 1960, Point Park is known for providing students with an innovative, disciplined education that combines the liberal arts with career education. The University's undergraduate programs include accounting, advertising and public relations, applied history, behavioral sciences, biological sciences, biotechnology, broadcasting, business, cinema and digital arts, criminal justice, dance, digital media, education (early childhood and elementary) engineering technology (civil, electrical and mechanical), English, environmental health science and protection, forensic science, global cultural studies, human resources management, information technology, intelligence and national security, journalism and mass communication, legal studies, organizational leadership, photography, photojournalism, political science, psychology, public administration, screenwriting, sport arts and entertainment management and theatre arts. A Point Park education is a personalized one. Classes average between 15 and 20 students and are taught by an experienced faculty augmented by working practitioners who bring knowledge of the workplace into the classroom. Point Park's schedule of day, evening and Saturday classes is designed to meet the needs of its diverse student body, which includes both traditional and non-traditional students. Its downtown location means the city is literally Point Park's campus and provides numerous opportunities for student enrichment. Internships in a variety of fields, including journalism, business, government, and the arts, are located within walking distance of the University, whose central location also enables students to take advantage of Pittsburgh's many sports, cultural and entertainment activities. To keep pace with its continuing growth and to meet the needs of its student body, the University has been expanding its downtown campus through its Academic Village Initiative, a multi-phased campus space plan. The Academic Village includes new loftstyle apartments, an urban park, and the new Pittsburgh Playhouse.
