- Mission
- At Pacific Union College, our mission is to offer an excellent and distinctive Christian education that prepares our students for productive lives of useful human service and uncompromising integrity. We do this by helping students strive for excellence in all areas of life, including the training of the mind and spirit. In this sense, Pacific Union College offers students a complete, whole-life education. One of our greatest strengths is our commitment to undergraduate education. We are truly a teaching community, and our goal is to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students. This means smaller classes, where professors teach the courses, not graduate assistants, and plenty of opportunities for students to interact with faculty and staff. At PUC, it is common for students to find a worthy mentor in a teacher, residence hall dean, or even the college president. Many professors choose to open up their homes for department dinners, offering students a home-cooked meal. The majority of the faculty and staff also attend the college church, where they worship side by side with students. We believe that authentic relationships between college staff and students are integral to the educational experience. Academically, PUC has received numerous accolades. Along with consistently high ratings from the USNews & World Report's "America's Best Colleges", PUC's students score above the 90th percentile in several Major Field Achievement Tests. We offer excellent pre-professional programs, and many of our students are accepted into the nation's most prestigious graduate, law, medical, and dental programs. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) has given PUC its most favorable rating. As a Christian organization, we have a commitment to provide an environment where faith can thrive. We encourage our students to thoughtfully examine their personal faith in the classrooms, residence halls, and worship programs. Honest and intellectual exploration of ideas is central to the faith journey at PUC. More than 125 years ago, one of our college's founders expressed hope that Pacific Union College would become a place for "thinkers, not mere reflectors of other men's thoughts". While such an ideal is difficult to achieve, it is, we believe, a noble ideal, worthy of pursuit.
