- Mission
- Founded in 1907, Olivet Nazarene University, a private, Christian, liberal arts university located 50 minutes south of Chicago, offers more than 100 areas of study and 10 international study-abroad opportunities, including places like China, Egypt, Russia and England. Olivet's mission is "to provide high-quality academic instruction for the purpose of personal development, career and professional readiness, and the preparation of individuals for lives of service to God and humanity." At Olivet, "Education with a Christian Purpose" means faith is at the heart of superior academics, athletics, social atmosphere, and ministry opportunities. The University is home to Shine.FM/WONU, a student-run 35,000-watt radio station ranked among the nation's top contemporary Christian music stations for its format. In addition, next fall, the University will open a new 3,059-seat chapel, which will host the entire campus for worship and the surrounding community for a variety of events. Also on campus is the Weber Center, which has garnered attention from other colleges for its impressive technology, and Strickler Planetarium, which is one of only three planetariums in the state of Illinois with digital projection capabilities. These are just some examples of the University's commitment to leading-edge facilities.
