More details
- Mission
- Olivet College was the first college in the United States, by charter, to admit women and people of color. The college remains dedicated today to its academic vision of Education for Individual and Social Responsibility by providing a quality higher education to all, regardless of gender, race or financial means. The college is home to more than 1,000 students who study under The Olivet Plan. In this unique educational experience, students engage in both curricular and co-curricular programs that combine real world experiences with lectures and service learning. In addition to offering several Bachelor of Arts programs, Olivet offers two graduate degrees: a Master of Arts in Teaching and an online Master of Business Administration in Insurance. The undergraduate Risk Management and Insurance Center has been identified as one of the 20 notable risk management programs in the world by Risk Management Magazine. Other notable undergraduate programs include natural and physical sciences, which offer preparation for medical, dental, veterinary and chiropractic school; and criminal justice, which includes minors in forensic science and insurance claims investigation, as well as several law enforcement training programs. In the past three years, the campus has experienced unprecedented growth and enrollment. New facilities include The Cutler Event Center, Gillette Student Village, M. Gorton Riethmiller Art Building and Kolassa Track. In addition, major renovations were made to the Mott Auditorium, Engle Chemistry Laboratory and several classrooms. All of these projects were funded by alumni and foundation support through a $17 million Capital Campaign. To date, the Capital Campaign is the most successful fundraising effort in the its 166-year history. Olivet College continues to foster its founding principle of teaching the divine art and science of doing good to others and has been named to the Presidents Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The college offers weekend service trips every month throughout the academic year, as well as service projects in the local community. Students have the option to participate in service trips to New Orleans and Mississippi to help with hurricane relief; or attend an Alternative Spring Break trip to HEIFER Ranch in Perryville, Ark., which educates students about solutions to world hunger and sustainability.
