- Mission
- The mission of North Park University is to prepare students for lives of significance and service. North Park offers a distinctively Christian, intentionally urban, and purposefully multicultural educational experience. Forty years ago North Park declined an offer to relocate to the far north suburbs of Chicago, deciding instead to stay, invest, and take advantage of a unique urban setting. The amazingly rich international and multi-cultural neighborhood of North Park, the presence of global corporations, and world class cultural resources of Chicago, attract students as well as exceptionally qualified faculty devoted to teaching. Rooted in the Christian tradition, the educational North Park offers is both profound and practical, balances freedom and disciplined responsibility, and is formational and transformational of the whole person. The common curriculum which all students take is built around some of the great questions of life, including: Who am I? What is Justice? What is true? What is a life of significance? Who is my Neighbor? North Park students develop into men and women with a passion to contribute to the common good of the planet in wide ranging careers in business, health care, government, education and the non-profit sector, including Christian ministries and the church. Students who are successful at North Park are regularly admitted into top graduate programs around the world immediately following college as well as within three to five years of graduation. Graduates from the North Park pre-med program have had an 85% admission rate into medical schools for the last twenty years. The campus is located on a beautiful, award winning, park-like 30 acre campus in a vibrant and culturally diverse Chicago neighborhood. Four bus routes border the campus and the Brown Line of the train system stops just two blocks away. A student owned automobile is not necessary. Four residence halls house 600 students and another 525 students live in school owned houses and apartments on the campus. North Park is a complexly diverse university, welcoming undergraduate students from 40 states and 27 countries. Diversity is evidenced in terms of socio-economic factors, race and ethnicity, and the faith background of students. 37 undergraduate majors and 26 minors are supplemented by another several special programs and pre-professional programs. The Honors Congress is designed for high ability students and provides mentoring and enrichment in a variety of ways, including coaching and mentoring for national scholarship competitions. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, a total of four North Park students have been awarded international Fulbright Scholarships for their year following graduation.
