- Moravian College, founded in 1742, is proud of its history as one of the oldest and most respected liberal arts colleges. Students find a supportive environment for self-discovery and academic achievement. Moravian nurtures in its students the capacity for leadership, lifelong learning, and positive societal contributions. Moravian enrolls students from a great variety of socioeconomic, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds; provides for highly personalized learning experiences; and offers many opportunities for students to direct their education toward individual and professional goals. Student-faculty collaboration, honors programs, independent work, internships and field study, and academic conferences provide an array of learning opportunities for students to undertake original research and other creative projects. With facilities that range from historic to modern, a $20 million academic complex featuring state-of-the-art educational technology, lies at the heart of the Main Street Campus. Students can select from a variety of housing options, including town-house style apartments, and a new living and learning residential complex on its historic Hurd Campus in the heart of Bethlehem that offers a multitude of amenities for today???s students. Recent additions to the more than 50 academic programs include biochemistry, environmental studies (with science and policy tracks), German studies, and neuroscience. Learning experiences at Moravian goes beyond it campuses, students are eligible to study abroad for a semester, or a year, through more than 40 academic programs in over 30 locales. They can enroll in a six-week second language program in Italy, Mexico, Spain or Germany through the LVAIC consortium. Moravian faculty lead May term study tours abroad each year. The College???s Leadership Center promotes the development and exercise of student leadership qualities and skills, both on and off campus. The College expresses its heritage in musical and artistic programs of great distinction, which are shared with the Bethlehem community. One-fourth of the students perform in Moravian???s music program. The annual Vespers program, featuring the Moravian College Choir, is broadcast on television each year throughout the region. Students from College???s highly regarded art program display their works in Moravian???s prestigious Payne Gallery. Moravian encourages the complete college experience for mind, body, and spirit. One-third of its students participate in intercollegiate athletics. The robust varsity sports program, from football to lacrosse, has produced nationally ranked women???s softball and track teams and All-American student athletes in many sports. Moravian is a founding member of the Landmark Conference and plays football in the Centennial Conference. Together with its cultural offerings, Moravian's handsome historic campuses, the community service of its undergraduates, and its programs of graduate and professional education for adults make it a valued part of the fabric of Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley.
