- Mission
- Merrimack College is a selective private college in the Catholic, Augustinian tradition whose mission is to enlighten minds, engage hearts and empower lives. The College offers undergraduate degrees in four focused schools: liberal arts, science and engineering, education and business. Merrimack also serves adults through master???s programs in education and a range of certificate, licensure and degree completion offerings. Merrimack???s approximately 2,000 full-time and 300 evening students represent 25 states and 17 countries. Merrimack is known for experiential learning and career preparation. Throughout the curriculum, students can take advantage of hands-on opportunities including cooperative education and internships, research with faculty, study abroad and service learning. In addition to traditional majors and minors, students can choose programs tailored for high-demand fields including biotechnology, digital media arts and sports medicine. A special point of pride is ABET-accredited engineering programs, unusual in a small college. Thanks to the curriculum and proactive career service office, 98 percent of recent Merrimack graduates have landed full-time employment or graduate school placements within six months of graduation. The College is located just 25 minutes north of Boston in suburban North Andover, Massachusetts. About 80 percent of Merrimack???s students live on campus, contributing to a strong sense of community. Small classes, a 13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, an active campus ministry, varied housing choices, and continuously improved facilities also support the close-knit atmosphere. There are more than 50 student clubs and activities, NCAA Division I men???s hockey, 15 men???s and women???s NCAA Division II sports, and active club and intramural sports. Merrimack has been ranked consistently high among peer institutions by US News & World Report for more than a decade and has also been named one of the best colleges and universities in the Northeast by The Princeton Review. The College has a 600 seat performing arts center, observatory, and two art galleries, one specifically for student work.
