Mission
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) delivers a high-quality, affordable education that provides students with the critical thinking and communication skills of greatest value to their development, their community and their future employers. As a public liberal arts college committed to preparing students for success at work and in life, that is our promise. Most colleges talk about developing students' talent for the future. At MCLA, our students' abilities are at work from day one. MCLA provides unmatched, hands-on growth opportunities - early and often - in an inspiring, creative community. Unique features of an MCLA education include a low faculty-to-student ratio, where professors know their students' names and share their dreams; collaborations with the region's cultural venues for our fine and performing arts, visual arts and arts management degree programs; our Berkshire Hills Internship Program (B-HIP), where students get hands-on experience as arts administrators; science programs including a 3+2 pre-engineering program, an environmental studies major and a major in athletic training; numerous study-away experiences; community service learning; and the opportunity to work with faculty on undergraduate research. The College offers Bachelor's degrees in 18 disciplines including business, education and psychology. In addition to our new art major, MCLA also added the political science and public policy major, which offers students the opportunity to integrate academic study with practical, high-impact opportunities like internships and the chance to make connections with policy-makers in government agencies and through other vocational experiences. Other features include diverse on-campus residence halls, more than 40 clubs and organizations, a TV studio and radio station where students produce their own shows; and a very active Student Government Association. Division III sports range from soccer to golf. MCLA also offers a comprehensive Master's degree in education. This welcoming, caring place helps students develop the confidence to make contributions to this world as lasting as the Berkshire hills that surround us, ensuring that students earn a powerful lifelong return on their educational investment.
