BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Christofersen received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1978. After two years of General Surgery and a residency in Orthopaedics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he performed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Dr. Christofersen is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
After working for four years as an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania and on the staff at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Christofersen joined TOA in 1989. His practice is predominately in the realm of childhood disorders of the musculoskeletal system including complex foot, knee and hip deformities along with scoliosis, fractures and cerebral palsy. He has lectured and taught extensively across the country on these topics. Dr. Christofersen is an active member of the medical staff at Saint Thomas Midtown, Saint Thomas West, Centennial Hospital, and Vanderbilt Medical Center. Dr. Christofersen is active in the leadership of TOA and has served as a member of the Board.
Born and raised in a medical mission setting in Durban, South Africa, Dr. Christofersen plays guitar, mandolin and the fiddle. Other interests beyond his family include gardening, sailing and photography.
