Company description
Maria Franceschini has spent the majority of her legal career as an Assistant Prosecutor in Monmouth County. After obtaining her undergraduate degree from Penn State University and her law degree from Quinnipiac University, she clerked for a judge in Hartford, CT. After that, she practiced insurance defense litigation for a law firm also in Hartford, CT. Maria returned to New Jersey in 1995.
She was hired by Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office as a law clerk in January 1997, shortly before her daughter’s first birthday. She spent time in the Appellate Unit and Family and Trial Divisions as well as the Special Victims Bureau. Maria spent 6 years in the Special Victims Bureau. She handled countless cases involving children who were sexually and physically abused as well as adults who were sexually assaulted. In 2011 Maria became a Trial Team Leader of one of the three Trial Teams in that division. She was then promoted again to Senior Litigation Counsel in 2017. Overall, Maria has tried approximately 100 jury and bench trials, including many high-profile cases. Maria received the 2016 Outstanding Victim Advocacy Award from the County Prosecutor’s Association of New Jersey for her work in a shaken baby trial.
Being an advocate for the most vulnerable victims of our society during her time in the Special Victims Bureau was the most rewarding aspect of being a prosecutor. Her father, Dr. Mark Franceschini, is a retired school superintendent and Maria grew up surrounded by her father’s passion for kids and that has always sparked the interest in Maria to continue to do work for our kids.
