- Mission
- Lake Forest College is one of the nation's most innovative liberal arts colleges. In addition to strong academic majors in the humanities, social and natural sciences, the College features inventive programs of study in communications, business, Asian Studies, Islamic World Studies, and still other contemporary areas. Abundant internship and research opportunities, close interaction with highly skilled professors, and practical programs in nearby Chicago set Lake Forest College apart. Lake Forest offers a rigorous academic environment in a small class setting. Ninety-eight percent of professors hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, and many come from top graduate programs at universities like Harvard, Chicago, Northwestern MIT, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania. Their work is published in such top journals as Nature and supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and many others. A residential co-educational institution located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Lake Forest students represent 45 states and 69 countries around the world, and international students and students of color comprise more than 25 percent of the student body. The opportunity for students from around the world to spend four years together in an empowering community prepares them well to compete and succeed in a global economy. The College's Center for Chicago Programs facilitates research and internships at Chicago institutions as well as frequent commutes to the city for work and fun. The Center also brings well-known Chicago experts and artists to campus for classroom discussions, as well as public lectures and performances. More than ninety student groups provide a host of extracurricular opportunities that develop leadership skills and enhance students' campus experience and post-college prospects. Lake Forest is a member of NCAA Division III Midwest Conference and competes in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. Lake Forest College is surprisingly affordable.
