Mission
Established in 1867, King is a comprehensive Christian college serving the Southeast and beyond. Modeled as a small university, King cultivates an environment of academic excellence where scholarship, stewardship and faith are integrated. Following our mission of building meaningful lives of achievement and cultural transformation in Christ, faculty and staff lead students to participate in activities that help them pursue maturity on social, intellectual and spiritual levels. The result is a dynamic community with a broad view of the world, sharpened professional acumen, and commitment to serving others. The College offers more than 80 majors, minors and pre-professional programs, and confers degrees in four-year and graduate-level programs. Six adult-oriented degree programs are offered including the Master of Business Administration, RN to BSN degree, Master of Nursing Degree, Master of Education, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Technology. King is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award baccalaureate and masters degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of King College. King is also a member of numerous associations, including the Appalachian College Association (ACA) and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). King has experienced 10 consecutive years of increasing enrollment, and is currently hosting approximately 1,804 students. Our student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 14 to 1 and communal campus atmosphere provide students with personal attention from professors and the opportunity to create lasting friendships. Students, faculty, staff, and the extended community have the opportunity to hear from nationally recognized voices through events offered by the Buechner Institute at King College. Incoming students experience a curriculum that broadens their understanding of the world and our place in it. Each year the freshman class travels to Washington, DC to visit offices of state, national museums, art galleries and various public organizations. Participants are challenged to explore their views on the arts, religion, varying cultures and issues facing humankind. The curriculum also helps students examine career options and begin working toward a degree in their chosen areas. A variety of extracurricular activities are available to King College students year-round. There are more than 30 student clubs and organizations on campus. King also has active intercollegiate and intramural sports programs that utilize the gym, student center, tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball diamond, and nature trail. Men's intercollegiate teams compete in baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, wrestling, volleyball, swimming/diving, tennis and bowling. Women's intercollegiate teams compete in softball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, swimming/diving, wrestling, and cheerleading/dance. Club athletics include flag football and ultimate Frisbee. Service to others is also an important part of life at King. A significant percentage of our students travel each year for study abroad, mission, and class and community service trips. Students can also participate in concerts, movies, and off-campus adventures such as hiking, paintball, rafting, skiing and other activities offered by the College's active student life program. At graduation, King students are prepared for the job market or the graduate school of their choice. During the past three years, an average of 85 percent of King's graduates seeking employment were employed in their major field within six months of graduation. Of those seeking to continue their education, more than 80 percent are accepted into their first-choice graduate or professional school.
