Family Law, when practiced well, is among the most challenging and complex legal practice areas, consisting of an ever-changing body of law. Family Law can be the most rewarding or disappointing legal practice areas. It is one which potentially has profound consequences to the parties, both financially and personally, and which involves negotiation, litigation, the weighing of good and bad options, strategic thinking, decision-making from a global perspective, and a strong consideration of consequences to children. This all exists within an emotionally charged atmosphere of shattered expectations, damaged egos and, occasionally, legitimate psychological dysfunction.
Practicing Family Law is not easy, and it takes considerable time to learn to do it well. It requires an in-depth understanding of civil procedure, trial procedure, evidence, appellate law, collections law, discovery and numerous other practice areas. Family Law, practiced well, and practiced with an eye toward providing service and value, is an honorable endeavor.
