More details
- Mission
- Eastern Mennonite University is a four-year Christian liberal arts institution guided by the Anabaptist peace-oriented tradition. Located in Virginia's scenic Shenandoah Valley, EMU prepares students to serve and lead in a global context. Mennonite students account for about 50 percent enrollment, and more than 30 percent of EMU undergraduate students are children of EMU alumni. About 40 religious groups are represented on campus. Ethics, faith, and values are integrated into every course of study. Cross-cultural study -- usually a semester in another country -- and community service are required of all students. EMU offers 36 majors and 36 minors, a seminary, a Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, and graduate programs in conflict transformation, education, counseling and business administration. EMU professors -- most of whom have lived internationally -- challenge students academically and mentor them to follow Christ's call to witness faithfully, serve compassionately, and walk boldly in the way of peace. Employers and graduate schools prefer EMU graduates because of the strong work ethic and moral integrity they offer. EMU athletes compete in NCAA Division III sports. Regular chapel services and other worship gatherings are integral to EMU, where students receive support for their faith explorations. Ministry assistants, community advisors and students in the graduate counseling program are part of the support network available to all students.
