- Mission
- Earlham's international character makes it special. Internationalism is woven into the fabric of Earlham where classroom learning goes hand-in-hand with experiencing the diversity of the world. Earlham actively recruits students from across the United States and the world. Fifteen percent of Earlham's 1,200 undergraduates are international students. Students from Afghanistan and Palestine mix easily with those from Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oregon and more than 40 other states on Earlham's tree-lined east-central Indiana campus, where diversity is celebrated. Nearly 65 percent of Earlham students and 60 percent of the faculty have participated in study off-campus. As a part of the College's general education program, students complete an international diversity requirement, including proficiency in a second language. More than 200 courses throughout Earlham's curriculum include international themes and content. The quality of Earlham's academic program is demonstrated by students' abilities to compete for and receive nationally competitive awards. Earlham seniors have been very successful in achieving recognition through awards of national fellowships, such as the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, Fulbright Fellowships and others. Earlham is one of only four liberal arts colleges that had a student place in the top 200 in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.
