- Carthage is a college of the liberal arts and sciences affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Carthage campus is situated within a 95-acre arboretum on the shore of Lake Michigan, midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. With an average class size of 17 students, and a student-faculty ratio of 14:1, Carthage attracts 2,500 undergraduate students from all parts of the world. Faculty members are hired from the top graduate schools in their disciplines. Career opportunities for Carthage graduates are superlative. Annually, more than 95 percent of new Carthage degree recipients achieve employment or continue in graduate or professional school within six months of graduation.
