- Birmingham-Southern is noted for its strong service-learning program, in which 70 percent of the students participate, its study abroad and leadership studies programs, and its January Interim Term. The curriculum is focused around courses developed for first-year students and culminates with senior conferences presented to the academic community. The college is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa, and the academic profile of the entering class each fall remains No. 1 in the state. Birmingham-Southern annually ranks No. 1 in Alabama and has been recognized nationally for the percentage of all graduates accepted to medical, dental, or health career programs.
