- All American offers cozy and affordable good time By Laurie Higgins October 23, 2008 2:55 PM With the off-season upon us, many local restaurants are beginning to offer specials to lure customers in. That's good news for those who love to eat out but are feeling the pinch of these precarious economic times. We recently discovered the All American Bar and Grill in South Dennis and were impressed by the cozy denlike atmosphere, the friendly service and, most of all, the reasonable prices. All American serves up standard pub fare, with entrxE9e prices ranging from $11.95 to $19.95, and a creative and affordable specials page. Each night from Monday through Thursday, it offers a different "all you can eat" menu item perfect for larger appetites. Monday is fish and chips, Tuesday is London broil, Wednesday is pasta night and Thursday is a turkey dinner. We happened to go on a Tuesday night, so I decided to give the London broil ($11.95) a try. It was simply delicious. The meat was tender, a perfect medium rare, and had a rich beefy flavor not always found in cheaper cuts of meat. The brown gravy was a nice complement to the meat. On the side I choose mashed potatoes, which came in a generous serving. They were creamy, buttery and yummy. The vegetable was a medley of yellow beans, green beans and carrots. Even though it was a frozen mix, all the elements were crisp and fresh-tasting. With the all-you-can-eat option, there was no need to order a salad or soup to start because I knew I wouldn't leave hungry. Since I'm really not an "all-you-can-eat" kind of girl, one plate more than filled me up. Best of all, because the meal was so affordable, I could order a glass of California zinfandel ($5.50) to enjoy with my meal and a cup of coffee ($1.75) to relax over afterward. The hubby had a hankering to try All American's award-winning chili ($5.70 a cup with the cheddar jack cheese topping). The chili was meaty with chunks of tomatoes. It was spicy, but not overly so, and had a wonderful undertone of cumin that was quite pleasing. The chili came with a side of warm corn chips with two chips arranged in a pretty display in the cup. For his main course, he tried the pub melt sandwich ($7.95), which was large and tasty. It was an open-face sandwich with a slice of marble rye at the base, topped with Russian dressing, tomatoes, a slice of Swiss cheese, turkey, ham, bacon and topped with melted cheddar jack cheese. It was more than a meal. For his side, he chose homemade potato salad. It was a tad bland, but very fresh with red bliss potatoes and tiny bits of red onion and celery. Add a glass of Australian cabernet ($5.95) and he was a happy and very full guy. We both relaxed over our meal and enjoyed the coziness of the red walls, wood wainscoting, and candlelit tables, marveling that we had found yet another restaurant we can't wait to revisit.
