Company description
The Alamo Area Resource Center (AARC) was founded in 1990 to assist in meeting the needs of individuals who are homeless, disabled or facing life challenging illnesses, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS in Bexar County and surrounding areas. Located at 303 N. Frio, AARC serves as one of the primary social service organizations in Bexar County and the surrounding area by providing and coordinating services to eligible individuals. We promote compassionate, non-judgmental care and support. In July, 2002, AARC relocated to downtown San Antonio, co-locating its social services on-site with the University Health System Downtown, alongside the Family Focused AIDS Clinical Treatment Services (FFACTS), the largest medical provider of HIV/AIDS services in South Texas. Utilizing the Johns Hopkins model of HIV Care, an integrated approach to treatment has proven effective due to the complexity of the patient population which is especially vulnerable to drop out from either medical treatment, social services care or both. To remedy this, a Single Point of Care" model was developed to maintain treatment engagement. The AARC wrap-around care model includes medical providers, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, housing specialists, and supportive services on-site. As a result of this model, AARC has doubled the number of persons served in the past seven years, with over 1628 persons served in 2012 alone."
